WWF began Earth Hour in Sydney in 2007 and each year thousands of Australians and businesses show their commitment to our environment by turning off their lights.

Last year, a record 18,000 landmarks in 7,000 cities around the world participated as part of their activities to call for action to reduce the causes of climate change.
The initiative is a chance to gather your friends around and have some fun by candle light! Here are some suggested ways to make the most of the hour:

1) Invite friends over for board games by candlelight (check out Spoilt for a great collection of candles)
2) Go out in nature – grab a blanket and some friends and set up a picnic in the backyard, on the beach, or in the park.
3) Play eye-spy in the city, see which landmarks are participating in Earth Hour!
4) Have a romantic candlelit dinner with a loved one at home
5) Sleep – catch up on some well-deserved rest!
6) Do a face mask and relax with a good book by candlelight (Treat your skin to a new mask from The Skin Boutique)
7) Last year Melbourne Water suggested you could even try looking for a platypus! It’s a great time of year to spot a platypus and you can do it at any waterway that suits you! Read some more tips and hints about spotting the Australian icon here
